Review : Excellent Introduction to Simple Machines
I bought the set for my homeschooled 6 yo. I had been looking for a building toy to teach her about simple machines for about a year when I discovered this one. Some of the parts were definitely too difficult for her to assemble herself, but it made a great educational tool for the two of us working together. (Some of the pieces took work even for an adult to put together!) Since it is intended for a group (it has enough pieces to build 4 of any model), we were able to build 7 different models and keep all assembled until the end of our unit on simple machines.
We have never used any K'NEX products before. We found that when you are trying to snap two pieces together and it won't quite work, the pieces sometimes fly across the room, so do it in an open area where you'll be able to find them again! (A couple went under the furniture, making retrieval difficult.) And the pieces can be quite difficult to disassemble, as well. We haven't yet taken everything apart, but...
